Biography

Tiffany Vise and Derek Trent are opposites. But the team put aside their rotational differences, Tiffany spins left while Derek spins right, when they paired up in summer 2003.

"Tiffany and I had separated from our previous partners and we were each expecting to sit out the next season," Derek said. Both had separated from their partners after the 2003 U.S. Championships.

"I was going to do the partner tryouts but since we were skating at the same rink, we decided to try out together for a month," Tiffany said in an interview with Skate Today. The one month try-out has turned into a successful partnership lasting five seasons as of 2007-2008.

After skating together for less than two months, Tiffany and Derek entered the Indy Challenge in Indianapolis. Their performance earned them an invitation to to the Golden Spin international competition where they won the bronze.

In their national championship debut at the 2004 U.S. Championships in Atlanta, Tiffany and Derek finished 13th. The team finished second at the Midwestern Sectional Championships and 9th at the 2005 U.S. Championships in Portland, Ore. the next season.

Following the national championships, Tiffany and Derek left Irina Vorobieva, a former World Champion and Olympic competitor, to train with Doug and Lara Ladret in Scottsdale, Ariz.

"Tiffany and I have been blessed with wonderful coaching, having first trained with Irina Vorobieva, former World Champion and Olympic competitor," Derek said. "Our basic technique and strength is owed to Irina, who helped us tremendously."

Derek said their "only regret is that we did not make the move earlier."
