Ryan O'Meara began playing hockey at seven. When O'Meara was 9 years old, he switched from hockey to figure skating.
"I enjoyed skating but not playing hockey," he said in an interview with Skate Today. "There was a freestyle session after hockey so I tried it out."
"I thought I would like figure skating," said O'Meara, who began figure skating with one 15 minute lesson every week.
"I started dance when I was 13," he said. "My coach in Arizona had a Russian coach come and work with him.
He told me that I'd make a better dancer than a singles skater," O'Meara said. "I could jump but there was no real future in singles for me."
O'Meara previously skated with Melissa Ralph, Lia Nitake and Lydia Manon before skating with Jamie Silverstein.
His greatest accomplishment in skating is winning the bronze medal at the 2006 U.S. Championships and making the Olympic team with Jamie, O'Meara said.
His career goal is to "always have fun," he said.
He is currently studying interior design at the College for Creative Studies. "I want to own my own design studio someday," he said.
O'Meara loves working in his garden in the spring and summer. He also likes hanging out by the pool and going to restaurants with friends, he said.
"I love taking weekend trips," O'Meara said.
"I don't know if I have a motto," he said. "But I try to live each day as its my last."
