Scott Smith first took to the ice at age eight after attending a friend's birthday party. He quickly progressed through formal lessons, and by age 12, he was performing triple Salchows (his favorite jump), triple toe loops and numerous spins.
Skating on the national and international level since age 13, Scott became the U.S. Junior Mens Champion in 1998.
He also won his first senior medal at the U.S.
National Championships in 2003.
National championships of other years have provided Scott with other memorable moments on the ice. He notes that his favorite memories include the long program that placed him first in 1998 and the short program competition in 1999. Also, a great source of pride for Scott, is the entire 2001-2002 skating season, in which he consistently landed quadruple jumps and recorded at top ten finish at nationals.
Scott hopes to establish more memorable on ice moments
by achieving his ambitious goals, which includes
improving his consistency, during the upcoming
seasons.
Among Scott's influences in skating are Todd Eldredge and childhood hero, Brian Botiano. He also notes that his mom and
his dad, a former nationally-ranked tennis player, have had a positive influence on his figure skating.
After his competitive skating career is over, Scott would like to pursue coaching and sports broadcasting. He would like to be a television commentator for figure skating events. Scott says, "I will always be involved in skating."
Outside of the rink, Scott enjoys staying active. He likes to play ping-pong and tennis but his favorite past time is playing with his dog, Winnie. Scott also notes that he could never grow tired of his hobbies.
"I find them all to be relaxing."
