1. What competition has taught you the most about yourself? I would have to say Nationals in 2001 taught me the most about myself. I had such high hopes going into it and then I was so disappointed by my skating and the results. I rebounded the following year with my first top ten finish. I also think my skating improved the most between 2001 and 2002. I learned that I am a fight and don't give up.
2. How did it feel to improve, from 8th in 2003 to 6th in 2004, in the Cup of China competition? It felt great to move up my second time around at the Cup of China competition. Each major international event builds so much experience. I think that if I get into the Grand Prix this year, I will do even better.
3. How would you rate your past season? I was disappointed with my past season. I was training very well but never seemed to skate up to my potential in any of my events, especially in the long program. I have a new long program this season, which feels a lot more skateable for me. I am confident I will be able to skate my best under pressure with my new program.
4. Do you prepare differently for national and international competitions? I would say that I train the same for both international and national competitions. Overseas or in the US, I want to skate my best.
5. Did you enjoy your visit to China? I really enjoy visiting China. I have been there three times in a year and a half period so I better like it! The hotel that we stay in is very nice--and so are the people. And there are so many historical sites to see. My favorite part is the bargain shopping!
6. Out of the countries you've visited, which has been your favorite? China is my favorite country that I have visited.
7. What are your goals for the coming season? My goal for this season is to skate very consistently in competition. I am very consistent on a day to day basis at my home rink and I am ready to show that to everyone. A World and Olympic spot would be nice as well. :)
8. What type of music will you be using for your programs? My music is a secret for now. I'll be showing my programs for the 2005-2006 season at the Liberty Open in a few weeks.
9. What pre-competition rituals do you have? A few hours before competitions, I like to eat as much pasta as possible. I need my energy!
10. How long did it take you to land the triple Axel? I work on it off and on for a few years and then consistently for two years. From the first time I tried my first triple Axel ever to the time that I actually landed it was probably 5 years.
11. Do you have any advice for landing a single Axel? Land it on the group first to gain the confidence you need to try it on the ice.
12. Do you do any coaching? Yes! I have a few people I teach in Boston on a consistent basis and then I help other people out whenever they want some extra help. I really enjoy coaching. I hope to make a career teaching when I am finished skating myself.
13. How are your quads? The quads are going very well, especially for early in the season. I've had them for a while so I am going for consistency now.
14. How do you like working with Lori Nichol? I love working with Lori. We get along well and we always have a fun time putting together my programs. I feel honored to work with someone as creative and talented as her. She is so great at bringing out each skaters' best.
15. Are you excited to be on the Reserve team for next year? It's always an honor to be on the US team.
16. Who designs your costumes? Lori mainly designs my costumes with Mark's ideas and of course, some of my input. Paul Ginandes in Boston makes my costumes.
17. Where do you keep your medals? I have most of my medals in my room at my parent's house. I have brought a few of my special ones up to Boston with me and are in my apartment.
18. Do you watch "American Idol?" I watch it when I remember. But, it's not a must see for me.
19. What is your favorite reality show? I don't have a favorite reality show. But my favorite current show is "Desperate Housewives." The actors are so good and the plot is so funny.
20. What was the last concert that you went to? I have actually been to only one concert in my whole life. Last summer, I saw Madonna. She is an amazing performer and I had a great time.
21. Which CD is in your CD player right now? "Let Go" by Avril Lavigne is in my CD player.
22. What do you like about Avril Lavigne? I like how her music has a catchy melody. I also like how her music is upbeat without being over synthesized.
23. What do you order at Starbucks? Ew, I hate coffee! I do like the molasses cookies though!
24. Have you seen Ice Princess? I have definitely seen "Ice Princess" because I train with Julianna Canarozzo, one of the stars, everyday. It was exciting to see her as a movie star!
