No medals for American men in The Hague

No American men medaled at the 2010 World Junior Championships in The Hague, Netherlands, as overnight leader Grant Hochstein and Keegan Messing, who was second in the short program, faltered on the triple Axels. Hochstein took fifth while Messing placed fourth overall.

Simpson, Miller take fifth in the Netherlands

Wenjing Sui and Cong Han of China skated to the gold in the pairs event at the 2010 World Junior Championships in The Hague, Netherlands. Japan’s Narumi Takahashi and Mervin Tran claimed the silver and the bronze medal went to Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov of Russia. Reigning U.S. Championship silver medalists in junior pairs Britney Simpson and Nathan Miller finished fifth with a score of 138.00 points, the highest among the American pairs.

Hochstein, Messing lead World Juniors

Grant Hochstein won the men’s short program at the 2010 World Junior Championships in The Hague, Netherlands, coming in ahead of teammate Keegan Messing and Japan’s Yuzuru Hanyu. Armin Mahbanoozadeh is in eighth place.

Simpson, Miller lead American pairs in The Hauge

Britney Simpson and Nathan Miller are in fourth place at the 2010 World Junior Championships in The Hague, Netherlands. The 2010 U.S. Championship silver medalists in junior pairs turned in a clean short program, complete with a throw triple Salchow and side-by-side double Axels, to finish with 52.20 points.

Ashley Wagner content with season’s end

Earlier this week, Ashley Wagner withdrew from the 2010 World Junior Championships in The Hague, Netherlands. The current U.S. Championship bronze medalist is not injured and will continue training for the senior World Championships in Torino, Italy.

Miner out of Junior Worlds with injured ankle

Ross Miner, the 2009 U.S. Junior Men’s Champion, has withdrawn from the 2010 World Junior Championships, scheduled for March 8-14 in The Hague, Netherlands. He has been replaced by Keegan Messing. In January, Miner withdrew from the 2010 U.S. Championships in Spokane, Wash., where he was scheduled to make his senior debut, after he sprained his ankle while performing a triple Axel in practice.

Evan Lysacek, Ashley Wagner withdraw from events

U.S. Figure Skating announced today that 2010 Olympic champion Evan Lysacek and 2006 Olympic silver medalists Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto will not compete at the 2010 World Figure Skating Championships in Torino, Italy. Ashley Wagner has announced she has withdrawn from the 2010 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in The Hague, Netherlands.

World Juniors ends with bronze for Wagner

Ashley Wagner finished her season in third place at the World Junior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, with 153.57 points. Former World Junior Champion and reigning silver medalist Caroline Zhang had a disastrous short program on Friday. Yet, turning in a seven triple jump performance in the free skate, which she won, pushed her up to the silver medal.

Ashley Wagner eyes medal in Sofia

The podium is in sight for Ashley Wagner at the World Junior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria. She finished second in the short program with 57.50 points. Her program in Sofia featured a triple flip-double toe combination, a double Axel and a triple lutz, although the jump received a negative grade of execution for the wrong take off.

Triple axels help Rippon repeat as champ

Skating at the World Junior Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, Adam Rippon successfully defended his title, beating silver medalist Michal Brezina of the Czech Republic by about 17 points with a score of 222.00, his new personal best. The bronze medal went to Russian Artem Grigoriev.
