Evan Lysacek named SportsMan of the Year

U.S. Olympic Committee honors Evan Lysacek, the 2010 Olympic Champion, with prestigious SportsMan of the Year award. In 2010, he finished second at the U.S. Championships but went on to win the Olympic gold medal.

Skaters honored by USOC for December performances

The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced cyclist Katie Compton and swimmer Ryan Lochte as its December Athletes of the Month, while the ice dancing duo Meryl Davis and Charlie White were awarded Team of the Month honors. Alissa Czisny finished second.

Rachael Flatt excited to meet President, First Lady

The 2010 Olympic and Paralympic athletes of Team USA have received an invitation to visit the White House by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, and they will have the honor of meeting the first couple on Wednesday, April 21. Nearly 225 of the total 264 Vancouver Olympic and Paralympic athletes will visit the nation’s capital where they will come together for one last time to celebrate their great achievements.

Olympians to visit U.S. capital

The 2010 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Teams that competed in Vancouver this February and March are coming together once again for a three-day visit to Washington, D.C., April 20-22. Nearly 225 athletes will participate in a variety of functions and activities in and around the nation’s capital, highlighted by the time-honored White House visit to meet President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

Flatt a Team for Tomorrow ambassador

The newest class of the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Team for Tomorrow Humanitarian Relief Fund announced details of the 2010 program, which includes visits to children’s hospitals and the donation of service hours to Habitat for Humanity. The 2010 Team for Tomorrow Athlete Ambassadors were also announced and include 2009 Skate America silver medalist Rachael Flatt.

Lysacek, Wagner nominated for USOC awards

Evan Lysacek and Ashley Wagner were nominated by U.S. Figure Skating for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Female and Male Athlete of the Month based on their performances in November. Fans, who account for 10 percent of the vote, can vote online through Dec. 7.

USOC celebrates 100 Days to Vancouver

The 100-day countdown to when Vancouver-bound athletes will come together in pursuit of Olympic glory has officially begun. To celebrate this milestone, the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC), presenting sponsor Hilton Worldwide and its portfolio of 10 hotel brands, Olympic broadcaster NBC, as well as the winter National Governing Bodies (NGBs) turned New York’s Rockefeller Center into a winter wonderland on Nov. 4.

Baga, Rippon nominated for USOC honors

Kiri Baga and Adam Rippon were nominated by U.S. Figure Skating for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s Female and Male Athlete of the Month based on their performances in October. U.S. Ice Dance Champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White were also nominated for the second consecutive month in the Team of the Month category.

Rockefeller turns into winter wonderland

The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) and presenting sponsor Hilton Worldwide and its portfolio of 10 hotel brands will kick off the 100-day countdown to the Opening Ceremony of the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in grand fashion by turning New York’s Rockefeller Center into a winter wonderland on Nov. 4. Through Olympic sport demonstrations by all eight winter sports, appearances by Olympians, Paralympians and 2010 Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls, as well as various other sponsor activities, the USOC will awaken the excitement of the upcoming Olympic Winter Games.
