Melissa Bulanhagui to represent Philippines

Melissa Bulanhagui, who won the bronze medal for the United States at the 2010 Nebelhorn Trophy, announced that she will represent the Philippines, the birth place of her parents, in future competitions. She will make her debut at the Philippines National Championships in November with a goal of competing internationally after the 2011-12 season.

Alissa Czisny appears in Super Bowl ad

Two-time U.S. Champion Alissa Czisny, who claimed her second national title last weekend in Greensboro, N.C., appeared in a Chrysler commercial played during Sunday’s Super Bowl. The commercial, which is titled “Imported from Detroit”, features Czisny, a member of the Detroit Skating Club, as well as Detroit rapper Eminem.

Flatt named Colorado Sportswoman of the Year

Rachael Flatt will receive a 2011 Sportswoman of the Year award from Sportswomen of Colorado, Inc. next month during the 37th Annual Awards Banquet at the Marriott Tech Center in Denver, Colo. The banquet, which is Sunday, March 13, will also feature the induction of triathlete Judyann Cummings, paratriathlete Tricia Downing and swimmer Missy Franklin into the Sportswomen Hall of Fame.

Rachael Flatt signs with Octagon for full representation

Global sports and entertainment marketing leader Octagon announced the signing of Olympic figure skater Rachael Flatt to a full representation agreement. Flatt, who was a member of the U.S. Olympic team at the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver, is the reigning U.S. National Champion. She will be competing in the 2011 U.S. Figure Skating Championships that will take place through Jan. 30 in Greensboro, N.C.

Slideshow: WELCOME TO MY WORLD

On January 11, three-time U.S. Champion Johnny Weir, also a two-time member of the U.S. Olympic Team, released his 272-page memoir WELCOME TO MY WORLD. Since his release party at Manhattan-Columbus Circle Borders in New York, Weir has been traveling the country to promote his memoir and song “Dirty Love”, with book signings currently scheduled in California, Illinois, Ohio, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Wisconsin.

Parker Pennington: An Ode to Nationals

Parker Pennington, the only man to have won national titles on the junior, novice, intermediate and junior levels, shares his poem about the U.S. Championship. At the U.S. Championships, Jan. 22-30, in Greensboro, N.C., he is going for his first senior level victory.

Skaters honored by USOC for December performances

The U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) announced cyclist Katie Compton and swimmer Ryan Lochte as its December Athletes of the Month, while the ice dancing duo Meryl Davis and Charlie White were awarded Team of the Month honors. Alissa Czisny finished second.

Weir’s whirlwind includes No. 1 ‘Dirty Love’

Johnny Weir’s debut single “Dirty Love” shot to No. 1 on the Japanese Amazon sales charts shortly after its worldwide release earlier today, according to Fireworks Sports Marketing, the firm that represents Weir. The single, which premiered on his official website JohnnyGWeir.com in December, is available for download through iTunes.

Nicholas LaRoche joins campaign against hate

With duct tape over his mouth, former U.S. Junior Men’s Champion Nicholas LaRoche is speaking out. LaRoche, who currently coaches at the Toyota Sports Center outside of Los Angeles, is one of the more than 8,000 people who have become the face of NOH8, a public campaign for equality.
