About
Since the 1998-99 season, Figure Skaters Online has proudly provided official websites for over 40 nationally ranked skaters. The athletes participate in three disciplines of figure skating—ladies, men’s and pairs—at various competitive levels. Ice dancers now use the partner site Ice-Dance.com.
Among the FSO athletes are 2010 Olympic champion Evan Lysacek and three 2010 U.S. Champions. Ladies gold medalist Rachael Flatt, men’s gold medalist Jeremy Abbott, and pairs gold medalists Caydee Denney and Jeremy Barrett all have their official websites at FSO.
Other FSO medalists include ladies silver medalist Mirai Nagasu; ladies bronze medalist Ashley Wagner; ladies pewter medalist Sasha Cohen; men’s silver medalist Evan Lysacek; men’s bronze medalist Johnny Weir; pairs pewter medalists Brooke Castile and Benjamin Okolski; and junior ladies pewter medalist Kiri Baga.
In 2009, FSO had several national champions including ladies gold medalist Alissa Czisny; men’s gold medalist Jeremy Abbott; pairs gold medalists Keauna McLaughlin and Rockne Brubaker; junior men’s gold medalist Ross Miner; and junior pairs gold medalists Tracy Tanovich and Michael Chau.
The athletes also include other medalists from the 2009 U.S. Championships including ladies silver medalist Flatt; ladies pewter medalist Wagner; junior pair silver medalists Brynn Carman and Chris Knierim; and junior pair bronze medalists Marissa Castelli and Simon Shnapir.
At the 2008 U.S. Championships in St. Paul, Minn., FSO athletes competed in all nine events: senior ladies, men’s and pairs; junior ladies, men’s and pairs; novice ladies, men’s and pairs. They took home the titles in the three disciplines at the senior level, as well as junior ladies and men’s, and all three novice disciplines. FSO athletes swept the medals in the senior men’s event.
More than half of the FSO athletes are also reigning medalists from more than a dozen novice, junior and senior international competitions sanctioned by the International Skating Union, including the World Championships, where Lysacek won gold in 2009, and bronze in 2005 and 2006. Weir won the bronze in 2008. Abbott is the 2008 Grand Prix Champion, the first American man ever to win that competition, and Lysacek captured the crown in 2009. Weir won the Grand Prix final bronze in 2008 and 2009.
Though the athletes are focused on their skating, they also aim to make their official websites personal with the inclusion of a blog, diary, journal or notebook, where the athletes share their experiences traveling the country and the globe. Athletes also supplement their sites with Facebook and Twitter to share information as it is happening.
Many athletes also choose to include travel photographs from their personal collections from competitions including the 2010 and 2006 Olympic Winter Games and renowned shows including Champions on Ice, Festa on Ice and Friends on Ice throughout the United States, Asia and Europe. On-ice photos are provided by award-winning skating photographers.
FSO invites novice, junior and senior athletes in ladies, men’s and pairs as well as web designers and webmasters to join the team. For more information on becoming a part of FSO, please e-mail Jamie Blanchard.
