Wow! Wow is all I can say about the off season.  It was amazing to watch the Olympics.  It’s funny to see some of the kids you grow up skating with competing and achieving total success at the games of which you dream to participate.  There were so many amazing performances.  Yu-na was incredible.  I was in Toronto working with David Wilson the same week that Yu-na was getting her programs choreographed and it was awesome to see them in full action.

Watching an American win gold for the men was inspiring.  Evan was awesome!!!! USA!  The ice dance hit home, so many great performances. Too many good skates to just give 3 medals. Savchenko and Szolkowy had the best short program in my opinion.  I really wanted to see them win in pairs.

After watching all the events I was inspired.  The off season has been a great time for me, but I’ve been very busy.  I’ve spent a lot of time working on technique and thinking about new programs.  In March I went to Toronto to get a new short program from David Wilson.  It’s been my 4th or 5th season working with him and every time I’m reminded of his gift.  He is a powerhouse of creativity, truly a genius.  I worked with him and really enjoyed the creative experience.  I always enjoy that part of skating.  I love the new program and can’t wait to perform it.

I also had the opportunity to go to American College Dance Festival Association with my class at Oakland University.  It’s a great experience. I took dance classes everyday from different faculty from colleges all over. This past season I’ve really missed dancing everyday.  I forgot how unique modern dance is, and what a strong contribution it gave to my skating throughout the year.

The final two weeks of April I had the opportunity to work with Frank Carroll.  I enjoyed my time so much that I decided to move out there and continue my skating career under his direction.  It wasn’t an easy decision; I’ve really enjoyed my time in Detroit.  I’ve spent my entire career here, but working with Mr. Carroll is a once in a lifetime opportunity that I cannot pass up.  It’s been great to receive all the support from my current coach Julianne Berlin.  She is a great person and I’m lucky to have had her guide me through the past 5 years of my career.

I look forward to this opportunity to reinvent my skating.  The drive out is going to be quite the task ahead of me.  Wish me luck and stay tuned for my play by play on Twitter!
