Olympian Johnny Weir: ‘Not Afraid Of Being Arrested’ Over Russia Anti-Gay Laws
The New Civil Rights Movement: Olympic skater Johnny Weir says he’s not afraid of getting arrested over Russia‘s anti-gay laws if doing so will bring attention to the issue. Weir is married to Victor Voronov, who is of Russian descent. Weir says while attending the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, he will not actively attempt to violate Russia’s laws against “homosexual propaganda,” nor will he even kiss his husband in public. “I’ll kiss him when I get to my hotel,” Weir says, but fears he may be arrested by authorities merely for who he is.
