USA Today: Few U.S. Olympians, if any, know more about Russia than figure skater Johnny Weir. As a self-described “Russophile,” it’s his dream to compete in his third Olympics and close out his career in the country that inspired his skating.

“It’s very storybook — in my mind, anyway,” Weir said Wednesday, exactly a year out from when Olympic figure skating will begin.

“I think Russia is going to knock it out of the park,” Weir said. “I think Beijing will look minimal after Russia has had its way with the Olympics. They’re spending a lot of money and they’re sending everyone to a town that is built on Russia’s obsession with vacation. … For many, going to Russia seems very daunting but Russia is going to great lengths to make everyone feel welcome.”
