News Jeremy finishes 11th in World Championship debut March 22, 2008 — Jeremy finished 11th at the World Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, with 197.26 total points. It's only his seventh international competition. He received 131.65 points for his 10th place free skate. In his program, he landed his opening quadruple toe, a triple lutz, double axel, triple lutz-triple toe-double toe combination and triple loop. He also had a fall out on his triple axel, a fall on his second triple axel and a fall on his triple toe. With a technical score of 67.45, which included two deductions, Jeremy finished ahead of Johnny Weir (2008 World bronze medalist), Daisuke Takahashi (2007 World silver medalist), Stephane Lamibel (2005 and 2006 World Champion), Stephen Carriere (2007 World Junior Champion) and Tomas Verner (2008 European Champion). Jeremy is now finished with competitive events for the season. He opened the season with a team win at the International Counter Match in Japan. Jeremy then went on to place eighth at Skate Canada and fourth at the NHK Trophy—in both, he bounced back from falls in the short program to place fourth in the free skate. At the U.S. Championships, Jeremy won his second consecutive pewter medal by landing the quad for the first time in both the short and long programs. He was fifth at Four Continents. Next up for Jeremy is Blades for the Cure, a benefit for the family of Broadmoor Skating Club competitor Austin Kanallakan, in Colorado Springs, Colo., on April 12. The Kanallakan family was struck by devastating news when the father Steve Kanallakan was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a type of cancer formed by cancerous plasma cells in the blood. He is also skating in Aspen Skating Club's spring show on May 3.

Jeremy gets nod for first World Championships after Lysacek injury March 13, 2008 — Jeremy received the news from United States Figure Skating Wednesday night that he will be representing the United States at the World Figure Skating Championships, slated for March 18 – 23 in Göteborg, Sweden. Through decisions to withdraw from competitions made by Lysacek and Weir, Abbott has gained valuable international experience, not to mention Premier Elite flight miles this season. When he knew he was alternate to Worlds, instead of taking the mindset of “none of those guys are going to drop out,” he continued to train.
