Meet U.S. Champion Jeremy Abbott

In late February 2007, Jeremy Abbott made his presence known by winning a bronze medal at the Four Continents Championship before his hometown crowd at the World Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Today, he's the Cup of China, Grand Prix Final Champion and the U.S. Champion with his sights set on competing at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games. He's also two-time national pewter medalist who finished 11th at the 2008 and 2009 World Championships.

The route to becoming one of the top male skaters in the world started at a public session in Aspen, when he was two. An inspiring performance by Olympic gold medalist Robin Cousins proved to be the turning point for Jeremy, then age four, as he started competing soon after.

His first competition, Colorado's "Funtastics" Basic Skills event, would become one of many on-ice successes for Jeremy, who won his first regional medal, a bronze, as a juvenile at the Southwestern Regionals in 1995.

Jeremy won the 2005 U.S. Championship in Portland, Ore., as a junior man. He's also been successful in the senior ranks with a gold medal at the 2006 Finlandia Trophy and a pewter medal at the 2007 U.S. Championships and 2008 U.S. Championships.

In November 2008, he also won his first medal of any color on the Grand Prix by taking the gold medal at Cup of China, setting personal bests along the way. He broke his personal bests en route to winning the Grand Prix Final and again when he won the 2009 U.S. Championship. He hopes more medals are to come as he aims for the 2010 Olympic team.
