Eliot listens to St. Paul, Minn. Deputy Mayor Ann Mulholland

The U.S. Figure Skating Association announced today that Eliot will represent the United States at a Junior Grand Prix event in late August, September or October. Information on the specific competition will be released by the USFS at least 30 days before the event.

Eliot finished 11th in the free skate at the U.S. Championships. Along with his 17th place short program, the free helped secure him a 13th place overall finish in his first senior nationals. He earned 183.67 total points.
In the free skate (127.64), Eliot landed two double Axels, a triple flip, triple lutz and triple Salchow. He also triple lutz-triple toe combination, triple flip, triple loop-double toe-triple loop and triple flip-double toe with two Level 4 spins.

Eliot finished 17th in the short program at the U.S. Championships in his hometown of St. Paul, Minn., with 56.03 points. He completed a double Axel, a triple Lutz-triple toe combination, a triple flip and two Level 4 spins but fell on footwork at the end of his program, which earned him a mandatory one-point deduction.

The U.S. Championships rolled into Eliot's hometown on Sunday. On Wednesday, the action kicks-off for the senior men when competitors skate in their first official practice at the secondary Pleasant Arena.
On Friday night, Eliot will make his senior national debut in the men's short program. The free skate is Sunday afternoon—NBC will air parts of the competition on tape delay later that evening.
During the senior free dance Saturday, Eliot and six other Riedell wearing skaters will sign autographs for fans from 5-6:30 p.m. on the main concourse next to section 124. Photos will be provided but only one item per-person, per-skater can be autographed.

Eliot finished fourth in senior men's at the Midwestern Sectional Championships to secure a spot at the U.S. Championships in St. Paul, Minn. He finished fourth in the free skate (123.38 points) to earn the pewter medal with 189.59.

Eliot placed third in the short program at the Midwestern Sectional Championships in Rochester, Mich., with 66.21 points. The senior men's free skate is Saturday night.

Eliot finished fourth in the free skate with 108.89 points at the JGP event in Chemnitz, Germany. He received a mandatory one point deduction for a fall. But the highlight of his program was landing his first triple Axel. Overall, he finished seventh with 158.96.

Eliot finished fifth at the Junior Grand Prix event in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania. After earning 48.55 points for his sixth place finish in the short program, he earned 97.75 for his fifth place free skate to finish fifth overall with 146.30.

At the Junior Grand Prix event in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania, Eliot finished sixth in the short program with 48.55 points. He is only 5.33 points out of third place.

U.S. Figure Skating selected Eliot to represent the United States on the Junior Grand Prix circuit during the 2007-2008 season, which will be his second consecutive season on the circuit.
He is currently assigned to compete Sept. 6-9, 2007, at JGP Romania in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania. Eliot may receive additional international assignments at a later date.
Last year on the JGP, Eliot won bronze medals at the events in Budapest, Hungary, and The Hague, Netherlands, before going on to win the gold medals at Regionals, Sectionals and the U.S. Championships.

U.S. Figure Skating named Eliot to the Team "B" envelope based on his gold medal performance at the 2007 U.S. Championships in Spokane, Wash. While the envelopes are not used as strict criteria for assigning internationals, envelopes do determine funding levels.
It is the third team envelope placement for Eliot. Last season, he was named to Team "C" based on his win at the 2006 U.S. Championship in novice men's.

The city of St. Paul, Minn., will celebrate the first "Eliot Halverson Day" tomorrow.
April 21 will be proclaimed "Eliot Halverson Day" in the City of St. Paul by St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman in honor of Eliot's various accomplishments in skating. He is a two-time national champion, winning novice in 2006 before taking juniors in 2007.
Deputy Mayor Ann Mulholland will formally deliver the proclamation following Eliot's performance in the St. Paul Figure Skating Club Ice Show at Richfield Ice Arena in Richfield, Minn., on Saturday evening around 8:45 p.m.

Eliot finished tenth at World Junior Championships with 155.97 total points.
"Everything was new in this competition," he said. "There are a lot of things you do that you haven't done before. The number of really, really good skaters is a lot greater than at a regional competition in the U.S. There are 24 amazing guys who have worked to be here."
In his free skate (102.46), Eliot entertained the crowd with an energetic program, which included a clean triple Salchow, a triple Lutz and a double Axel. He also landed a triple loop-double loop combination.
Eliot did not receive any deductions but was downgraded to a double on his first triple Lutz, which was in combination with a double toe. He also had a mistake on the landing of his second double Axel.

After the short program at the World Junior Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, Eliot is currently in 14th place with 53.51 points. He opened his program with a solid Beillman into a triple lutz-triple toe combination but later fell on the triple flip, receiving a one-point deduction.
"There are a lot of good skaters, and that is motivation to get here again in the future,'' he said. "I am having a lot of fun, but I will skate a lot better tomorrow (in the free skate).''
The free skate is tomorrow, March 1.

In one year, Eliot went from the 2006 U.S. Champion in novice men's to the champion in junior men's, the event that he won today in Spokane, Wash.
"I feel incredible," Eliot said. “That was definitely the program I wanted to do. I wouldn’t change anything, I'm so excited."
He skated a gold medal program to "Beetlejuice" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Eliot landed seven triple jumps, not including a triple Axel, which he landed in practice and plans to try in future events.
"I'm so excited about everything that will come with my skating career and with my life," he said. "I think as I get older I think about how much I've changed just from a couple years back, and it gets me so excited for what’s going to happen in the next 10 years, 20 years. So this is just another stepping stone in my long career plans."
Halverson finished first with 187.79 points.

Eliot is in first place after the junior men's short program at the U.S. Championships in Spokane, Wash. He scored a personal best 65.12 points in his debut national championship performance as a junior man.
"Coming in, I knew I had a difficult task ahead of me. I’ve been competing against a lot of these guys for a long time, and a lot of them are very talented," Halverson said. "To be at the top feels really good."
The event concludes Friday morning with the free skate.

Eliot qualified for the U.S. Championships in Spokane, Wash., by winning the junior men's title at the Midwestern Sectional Championships on Saturday. The nationals are January 21-28, 2007.
He finished first in the short program (65.65 points) and first in the free skate (113.23 points) to take the Sectional title with 178.88 overall points, which is 17.55 points ahead of his nearest competitor.

At the Upper Great Lakes Regional Championships, Eliot finished first in the junior men's event. He finished first in the short program (68.07) and free skate (109.31), with the highest technical and presentation scores in both, for 177.38 points overall.

After finishing fifth in the short program at the Junior Grand Prix event in The Hague, Netherlands, Eliot finished second in the free skate with 111.47 points. His overall score of 164.56 put him in third place overall.

Less than a week after Eliot won the bronze medal at his first Junior Grand Prix assignment, the U.S. Figure Skating Association has selected him for a second event. Eliot will skate at JGP Netherlands in The Hague, Netherlands, on October 5-8.

In his first Junior Grand Prix event, Eliot finished first in the short program (59.91) and fourth in the free skate (99.75) to win the bronze medal with 159.66 points.
"The other guys have a triple Axel and I don't, so I don't think there is anything I could have done to hold on to first place," Eliot said after the free skate. "I skated well in both programs. That's all I wanted to do."

the free skate tomorrow.

U.S. Figure Skating, the national governing body for figure skating, selected Eliot to represent the United States on the Junior Grand Prix circuit during the 2006-2007 season.
USFS assigned Eliot to compete at the JGP event in Budapest, Hungary, from Aug. 31 to Sept. 3rd. The competition, which marks Eliot's first international appearance as a junior, is the second of eight events in the series.
Eliot was also assigned to the team envelope "C" for the upcoming season. It's the second team envelope placement for Eliot. |
