Eliot qualifies for U.S. Championships

November 17, 2007 Eliot finished fourth in senior men's at the Midwestern Sectional Championships to secure a spot at the U.S. Championships in St. Paul, Minn. He finished fourth in the free skate (123.38 points) to earn the pewter medal with 189.59.

Eliot in third after the short program

November 16, 2007 Eliot placed third in the short program at the Midwestern Sectional Championships in Rochester, Mich., with 66.21 points. The senior men's free skate is Saturday night. The top four overall finishers qualify for the U.S. Championships.

Eliot lands first triple Axel in competition

October 13, 2007 Eliot finished fourth in the free skate with 108.89 points at the JGP event in Chemnitz, Germany. He received a mandatory one point deduction for a fall. But the highlight of his program was landing his first triple Axel. Overall, he finished seventh with 158.96.

Eliot in seventh at Germany JGP

October 11, 2007 Eliot finished seventh in the short program with 50.07 points at the JGP event in Chemnitz, Germany. He received a mandatory one point deduction for a fall.

Eliot finishes fifth in Romania

September 9, 2007 Eliot finished fifth at the Junior Grand Prix event in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania. After earning 48.55 points for his sixth place finish in the short program, he earned 97.75 for his fifth place free skate to finish fifth overall with 146.30.

Eliot in sixth at JGP Romania

September 7, 2007 At the Junior Grand Prix event in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania, Eliot finished sixth in the short program with 48.55 points. He is only 5.33 points out of third place. Eliot will skate Sunday in the free skate.

Eliot headed for the Junior Grand Prix

May 22, 2007 U.S. Figure Skating selected Eliot to represent the United States on the Junior Grand Prix circuit during the 2007-2008 season, which will be his second consecutive season on the circuit.

He is currently assigned to compete Sept. 6-9, 2007, at JGP Romania in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania. Eliot may receive additional international assignments at a later date.

Last year on the JGP, Eliot won bronze medals at the events in Budapest, Hungary, and The Hague, Netherlands, before going on to win the gold medals at Regionals, Sectionals and the U.S. Championships.

Eliot named to Team "B" by U.S. Figure Skating

May 10, 2007 U.S. Figure Skating named Eliot to the Team "B" envelope based on his gold medal performance at the 2007 U.S. Championships in Spokane, Wash. While the envelopes are not used as strict criteria for assigning internationals, envelopes do determine funding levels.

It is the third team envelope placement for Eliot. Last season, he was named to Team "C" based on his win at the 2006 U.S. Championship in novice men's.

St. Paul to celebrate 'Eliot Halverson Day'

April 20, 2007 The city of St. Paul, Minn., will celebrate the first "Eliot Halverson Day" on April 21. The day will be proclaimed "Eliot Halverson Day" in the City of St. Paul by St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman in honor of Eliot's various accomplishments in skating. He is a two-time national champion, winning novice in 2006 before taking juniors in 2007.

Deputy Mayor Ann Mulholland will formally deliver the proclamation following Eliot's performance in the St. Paul Figure Skating Club Ice Show at Richfield Ice Arena in Richfield, Minn., on Saturday evening around 8:45 p.m.

Eliot finishes 10th at World Junior Championships

March 1, 2007 Eliot finished tenth at World Junior Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, with 155.97 total points.

"Everything was new in this competition," he said. "There are a lot of things you do that you haven't done before. The number of really, really good skaters is a lot greater than at a regional competition in the U.S. There are 24 amazing guys who have worked to be here."

In his free skate (102.46), Eliot entertained the crowd with an energetic program, which included a clean triple Salchow, a triple Lutz and a double Axel. He also landed a triple loop-double loop combination.

Eliot did not receive any deductions but was downgraded to a double on his first triple Lutz, which was in combination with a double toe. He also had a mistake on the landing of his second double Axel.

Eliot falls to 14th place at World Juniors

February 28, 2007 After the short program at the World Junior Championships in Oberstdorf, Germany, Eliot is currently in 14th place with 53.51 points. He opened his program with a solid Beillman into a triple lutz-triple toe combination but later fell on the triple flip, receiving a one-point deduction.

"There are a lot of good skaters, and that is motivation to get here again in the future,'' he said. "I am having a lot of fun, but I will skate a lot better tomorrow (in the free skate).''

Eliot is the 2007 U.S. Junior Men's Champion

January 26, 2007 In one year, Eliot went from the 2006 U.S. Champion in novice men's to the champion in junior men's, the event that he won today in Spokane, Wash.

"I feel incredible," Eliot said. “That was definitely the program I wanted to do. I wouldn’t change anything, I'm so excited."

He skated a gold medal program to "Beetlejuice" and "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Eliot landed seven triple jumps, not including a triple Axel, which he landed in practice and plans to try in future events.

"I'm so excited about everything that will come with my skating career and with my life," he said. "I think as I get older I think about how much I've changed just from a couple years back, and it gets me so excited for what’s going to happen in the next 10 years, 20 years. So this is just another stepping stone in my long career plans."

Eliot finished first with 187.79 points.

Eliot in top spot at nationals following short program

January 24, 2007 Eliot is in first place after the junior men's short program at the U.S. Championships in Spokane, Wash. He scored a personal best 65.12 points in his debut national championship performance as a junior man.

"Coming in, I knew I had a difficult task ahead of me. I’ve been competing against a lot of these guys for a long time, and a lot of them are very talented," Halverson said. "To be at the top feels really good."

The event concludes Friday morning with the free skate.
