July 19, 2007

Hello, everyone! I’m sorry it’s been a while since the last entry. Life has been pretty busy, and I keep forgetting to just sit down and write. But here I am now with a little update for summer.

Summer has been really exciting so far.  In May, I flew up to Toronto, Canada to work with Lori Nichol on choreographing my long program. It was quite the experience.  It first started with the music selection. We went through a lot of music before we finally decided on using the Yellow River Piano Concerto.  It is a beautiful piece of music, and though I had never thought of using it before, I’m glad we picked it for this year.  Skating in Toronto and working with Lori is something I will never forget.  Lori is amazing to work with. She’s so creative and fun, and she really helped me to get the concept of the program.  It took four days of nonstop work to complete my long program. It was hard work, but I’m very excited about the end result. I can’t wait to compete with it.

After coming back home, I got to help out at the PSA conference that was being held at my rink.  I have never seen so many coaches in one building!  As one of the “demonstrators,” I was a little nervous about messing up with everyone watching me, but it went great. I didn’t mess up too badly…

The next week was dedicated to choreographing my short program. I had already decided beforehand that I was going to skate to “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” so we didn’t have to waste any time listening to more music.  For my short, I worked with Braden Overett, a training-mate, friend, and also the PSA Choreographer of the Year.  I’d say I was in good hands.  Of course, there is never a dull moment with Braden so choreographing my program was tons of fun.

The Summer of Excellence skating camp has also been making summer interesting.  Every year, we get tons of skaters from out of town, state, and even country who come out to LA and skate.  Every week there are either new people to meet or old friends to reunite with.  The training atmosphere is motivating and intense—perfect for getting the new season started on a good note.  There are only two more weeks left of camp, and I can barely believe it. Summer has flown by so quickly!  It’s also two weeks before my first competition of the season.  I am going up to San Jose, CA to compete at the Silicon Valley Open.  I’ve never done that competition before so it’ll be a new experience.

I’m so excited for this season.  I have been assigned to two Grand Prix competitions—Cup of China and Cup of Russia which are both in November, so it will be a busy month.  I hope your summer has been at least as good as mine has been so far, if not better.  Leave a message for me and let me know anything interesting and fun that happened! Again, sorry for the long delay for the update. I promise I’ll get better! J

Thanks for reading!

Love, Bebe
