Becoming a part of the Guinness World Book of Records is no easy feat. But on Nov. 17, Tiffany Vise and Derek Trent made themselves a part of history at Trophee Eric Bompard by performing the first throw quadruple jump, a Salchow, in an international competition. "I still can’t believe it happened," Vise said in an interview with Figure Skaters Online. "It is really nice to have all my hard work finally pay off especially getting through all the bruises. We have been getting more consistent with the throw and it was a matter of time for us to complete it cleanly in competition." Vise and Trent also want to become the first pair to land a throw quad at the U.S. Championships. In St. Paul, the pair hopes including the move in their Les Miserables free skate will secure the top spot on the podium. They also hope it earns them one of two spots on the World Championship team. The team started the season with a fifth place finish at both the Nebelhorn Trophy and Skate Canada. With help from the throw quad Salchow at Trophee Eric Bompard, they finished fourth, their highest placement in two seasons on the Grand Prix circuit. Vise and Trent finished fifth at the 2007 U.S. Championships following a fourth place short program and sixth place free skate. They also finished sixth in 2006, ninth in 2005 and 13th in 2004, their first season together. Both Colorado Springs, Colo., natives do some coaching at their training rink in Scottsdale, Ariz. Aside from coaching, Vise is a waitress part time at a sports bar and restaurant while Trent sells real estate part time. Both are also college students—Vise is an undergrad while Trent is working toward his MBA. For more information on Vise and Trent, visit viseandtrent.com. |
