W esley Campbell is back at the national championships for the first time since his 14th place senior debut at the 2005 U.S. Championships.

He qualified for the event by winning gold at the Midwestern Sectional Championships. In the short program, he landed a triple lutz-triple toe combination, a triple Axel and a triple flip for 69.49 points before scoring another 135.69 for his free skate. Campbell's only other victory at sectionals came as a junior in 2003.

Campbell far surpassed his international personal bests at the 2007 Midwestern Sectionals. He scored 24.05 more than in his short program at 2004 Junior Grand Prix China. He performed 45.41 points better than his best free skate from the 2005 World Junior Championships. Campbell's overall score of 205.18 was also 72.79 points higher than in China.

He competed internationally starting with a silver medal at 2000 North American Challenge Skate Montreal. On the Junior Grand Prix circuit, Campbell finished 10th at 2004 Junior Grand Prix China, 10th at 2003 Junior Grand Prix Bulgaria, sixth at 2002 Junior Grand Prix Germany and second 2002 Junior Grand Prix Yugoslavia.
