Catching up, exploring are things Brynn Carman will enjoy at the nationals

Brynn Carman and Chris Knierim come into the U.S. Championships with the opportunity to win their first national title in the novice pairs event. Last year, they were fourth.

However, the chance to move up on the podium did not make Carman's list of the top eight things she loves about nationals. She recently sat down with Figure Skaters Online to talk about why she is excited for St. Paul.

1. The fans. I love skating in the big arena with big crowds. I like to hear everyone clapping and getting excited about our programs. I also love it when the other Broadmoor teams yell and scream silly things right before we skate.

2. Catching up with friends. I love seeing friends we only see once or twice a year. It is fun to reunite and spend time together hanging our in the competitors room. It is also fun to watch them skate and give them support.

3. The other events. I love skating early for the novice events and then getting to stay all week and watch and have fun. It is great to have time to relax and not have to go to school. Although, I do have to do homework in my hotel room.

4. Interviews. I love the mock kiss and cry that we get to participate in at the conclusion of our programs. It is fun to pretend we are talking to the press. It is actually really good practice for later on.

5. The hotel. I love room service in the hotel and renting in room movies. My mom and I love to relax in the evening and do this.

6. Exhibition of Champions. I love watching the exhibitions on the last Sunday. It is so fun to see everyone doing their show programs and I love it when the arena is dark and the spotlight is on the skater.

7. Exploring the area. I love to walk around the downtown area near the hotel and rink. It is fun to explore little shops and fun restaurants.

8. The Mall of America. I can't wait to go to the Mall of America. I want to ride the roller coaster.
